Phoebe... had coffee.

A package from Gevalia had been delivered today and she was happy to find an package of Amaretto and a package of Chocolate Raspberry.

After making sure the boys were occupied with the nursery or something else, she made her way into the kitchen and fired up the coffee maker.

Coffee coffee coffee!

"Come on come on," she muttered to the coffee maker. "Hurry up."

[[OOC: For the boys, but open to anyone who wants to catch the coffee bandit with stuff she's not supposed to have. :)]]

Oh, like an old coffee connoisseur like Sam wouldn't notice the smell of fresh java -- good fresh java -- brewing.

"Is that . . . coffee I smell?" came a suspicious call above the rustle of wallpaper, drifting down the staircase from the nursery.

Sam's voice turned slightly dubious, but the floorboard of the top step didn't creak like it did every time someone started down the stairs (usually prompting Sam to swear he'd get around to fixing it as soon as the nursery was done).

"Phoebe . . ."

"That coffee is for us, right? Because your loving guys have been hard at work?" he asked in a mildly rebuking tone.

Damn it.

"Uh huh!"

Didn't mean she would sneak a cup herself... or two.

"Okay," Sam called, giving her the benefit of the doubt for now. It wasn't as if he could have dropped everything at that particular moment and gone to check anyhow; he was in the middle of putting up a particularly delicate piece of wallpaper around the doorframe.

Lana knocked on the door. She hadn't seen or heard from Phoebe in ages. Which she knew was partly her fault since she'd been busy with taking over the Leaf, and redoing all the gardens, and of course, Jim.

Still... she missed her friend.

"It's open!" Phoebe called out from the kitchen.

"Hey," Lana said, making her way in.

"Coffee? Smells good."

"Hey, sister-friend."

She looked up to make sure the guys weren't coming down the stairs and then nodded. "Amaretto."

"Nice," Lana said with a smile. "So, I haven't seen you in... months? How are you doing?"

Phoebe smiled at her, gesturing her to follow her out to the living room. "A lot has happened for both of us."

Lana nodded, following her. "I like what you've done here. Yeah... things have been busy. Good, overall, but crazy busy."

Phoebe took a drink of her coffee and closed her eyes in bliss. "Oh dear gods that tastes like heaven." She smiled at Lana. "The boys don't want me to drink coffee."

"Why not?" Lana asked curiously. "You always drink coffee."

"They think it's bad for the babies."

Lana froze.

"The... babies?"

Phoebe bit her lip. "You hadn't heard? It seems people keep reporting it on the news." She swallowed. "I found out in April that I was pregnant and I found out Friday that I... I'm having twins."

"Oh, wow... No, no, I don't listen to the news much anymore. Not with Jim..." Her voice trailed off as she tried to take it all in.

"Hey, congratulations, of course, and yeah, you better put that coffee down."

Phoebe was smiling happily again. "The guys are ecstatic and a little flaily about making preparations."

"I can imagine," Lana said. "Twins. Wow. Amazing. So when are you due?"

"Well, that will be one hell of a present," Lana said wonderingly.

She nodded. "If everything goes right the boys will have their daughters for Christmas."

Lana smiled a little wistfully. "Sounds wonderful."

"And did I mention that you need to put down that coffee? Now."

Phoebe pouted at her. "But Laaaannnaaaa...."

Lana just gave her a Look and put her hand out for the cup.

Phoebe sniffled and handed her the cup. "It's not like they can become caffeine addicts. I'm allowed to have tea."

"I'll make you a nice cup of tea, then," Lana said firmly and took the cup into the kitchen. She dumped her own as well, feeling it wasn't fair to be a tease.

She took a minute to try and get her head together. Phoebe. Having a baby. Twins. Known since April, never said a word. All over the news.

She set the kettle to boil. "Any particular type you want?" she called towards the living room.

If Phoebe knew what Lana was thinking she would point out that Lana had been busy with her own things... and that Phoebe had tried to hide her pregnancy from everyone.

"Irish Breakfast," she called to the kitchen and sat back down on the couch with a small pout.

Lana would never tell Phoebe what she was thinking.

It took her a minute to find everything, but soon enough she was coming back in with a steaming cup of hot tea. "There you go," she said with a smile.

Phoebe took the tea and smiled. "Thank you, Lana." She tok a sip. It wasn't coffee, but the tea was good.

"It's been a little scary," she finally said.

Lana nodded. "I can only imagine," she said. "After everything you've been through. But it's all different now."

From: [identity profile]
"So they keep telling me," she said quietly.

"Trust them," Lana urged. "They won't let anything happen to you. No one in the town will."
