44 Blueberry Hill, In The Backyard All Morning

With Mina taking care of the store today, Phoebe was in the backyard of the house with the twins. She had put up barriers to make sure that they couldn't wander off into the woods. There were blankets spread out on the grass and the baby swings were out here, too.

Currently, though, Phoebe was on the grass with both twins in her arms and she was telling them fairy tales from the old book that was open in front of them.

"Did you know that your Mommy's favorite fairy tale is Cinderella?" Thea giggled and Peri patted her nose. "Yes, and I even got my Prince Charmings, too."

The nice thing about having demonic shimmer-transport options was that Sam could cover the NCAA Women's College World Series for the sports blog he'd been writing for lately in Oklahoma City, and still stay home with the family.

Which, at the moment, meant working feverishly on the baseball diamond backstop nearby as Phoebe read to the twins. Yes, again. It was like a compulsion. He was going to tweak the thing to death eventually.

"What if they don't like baseball?" Cole said idly from where he was inspecting the baby swings for any sign of wear that would necessitate replacing them immediately. He mostly asked because he wanted to see Sam flail.

Oh, the look Sam gave him. "Then I'll plant a cornfield around it and we can re-enact that movie."

He didn't flail, exactly, but he did give a couple of unnecessarily hard twists of his wrench to the bolt he was tightening.

Phoebe tried not to giggle and pretended to be reacting to one of the twins.

"No, no summoning ghosts around the girls," Cole said. He glanced around the backyard. "Think we should get a pony? Well, two ponies, one for each."

"Not that movie, dork! And what if they don't like horses?" Sam shook the wrench at him then felt the need to disclaim, "Girls, don't do what I do. No waving heavy blunt objects at people unless they need to be vanquished, got it?"

"Oh yeah... that's going to work," Phoebe said dryly. "Look how it works on me, after all."

"All girls love horses," Cole said, giving Sam a "duh" look. "And no mentioning vanquishing period around the twins. It could give them a complex."

"Who doesn't love baseball?" Sam retorted with a mulish expression. "I'd ask if I could take 'em with me when I go to the softball game today but they've drawn a record crowd this year and it's insane."

"I only liked it when you were playing," Phoebe inserted helpfully.

Sam snorted. "Not exactly an issue any more, is it? Really, you guys wound me."
